What Kind of Nutrition is Appropriate for Children Hitting Puberty?


Puberty is a very important stage of growth and development in a child, as it is the portal to maturity. This stage of a child has to be well maintained with nutrient rich diets. The biggest problem parents have to face is doing exactly that; teens tend to spend time with their friends and eating out fast food joint. Girls usually hit puberty starting at the age of 11 years and boys starting at the age of 12 years. This starts the sexual development in children and it continues to around 14 years of age for girls and 16 years of age for boys. The biggest problem caused by an unhealthy diet is the delay of onset of puberty. There are certain things to keep in mind while deciding the nutritional diet for the child as their nutritional requirements need to be met.


Iron is an important nutrient for the body for growing kids more importantly for girls. The girls are susceptible to anemia due to the menstruation process which also causes iron deficiency; hence an iron rich diet is very important for the children during puberty. Raisins, spinach eggs and beans are very good sources of iron which can be added to the diet.


Protein is a very important nutrient for the growth of the body especially the bone and organ tissues to grow healthily. Lean meat is a good source of protein and it is rich in iron too. Along with this seafood is also a great source for protein, adding these types of food to the diet is very healthy.


Calcium is very important for bone health and also muscle growth. Normally there tends to be a trend of decreasing intake of calcium as the children grows up. Eggs are one of the biggest sources of calcium along with milk. These two can be easily incorporated into the diet.
