Flat Bread Recipe

4 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups warm water

1 envelope yeast (or 2 1/2 teaspoons)

1 teaspoon salt

In a large bowl mix together warm water, yeast and salt. Add flour. Mix until combined and scraping into ball in bottom of the bowl. Cover and let stand for about 2 hours. After the dough has doubled in size it’s ready to use, or store for later. Scrape down sides of bowl, dump mixture onto floured surface. Turn to coat with flour and flatten for easy measuring.

Divide dough into 12 sections. To store, place a ball of dough into a small bag, twist closed and store in refrigerator up to 2 weeks. To use, flatten ball of dough into a 6 inch round.

Preheat a stove top grill pan (or a griddle) over medium/high heat. Do not oil. Place one dough round on hot grill and cook without touching it until you see bubbles on the surface, about 1 to 2 minutes. Turn and continue to cook 1 to 2 minutes more or until bread has puffed up. Repeat with remaining dough rounds.

  1. Used this recipe today. Really good! And my three year old ate it as soon as it cooled enough to put in her mouth! I shared a link to this page on my blog: whereveryougoblog.com. Thanks for helping our day be yummy!

  3. I am in the middle of this recipe, and it seems very wet compared to my usual breads and pizza doughs. Should this be a very loose dough?

    • It is a bit more wet, but if it doesn’t feel right you can always add a bit more flour and go from there =) But don’t add too much since the bread should be airy and soft when done and too thick dough will make it thick and hard.
