How to Cook Brown Rice Perfectly Every Time

Brown rice is so much better for you, but cooking it may not be as easy as cooking the white kind. Here is an easy way to cook brown rice that will give you perfect results every time!

How to Cook Brown Rice


1 cup brown rice

6 to 8 cups water

Salt (about 1 teaspoon)


Wash rice well under running cold water in a strainer. In a large pot put water and salt, bring to a boil. When water is boiling add in rice and only partially cover the pot so that the water doesn’t spill over while cooking. Cook rice on medium/high heat for about 30 minutes or so.

Drain the rice in a strainer. Return the rice to the pot it was cooking in and cover it with a lid. Let the rice sit in the hot pot tightly covered for about 20 minutes so that the steam can finish cooking the rice. Uncover the rice and fluff with a fork right before serving. This will be about 3 cups of cooked rice.
