Having a perfectly flat stomach all the time just isn’t normal. After you eat or drink, food and liquids naturally expand your stomach and intestines which is inevitable every single day. Some foods will leave you more bloated than others, like…

  • Some foods naturally produce gas like beans, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts or onions.
  • Carbonated drinks will leave you bloated and with gas. Bubbly drinks such as soda and beer release carbon dioxide which can translate to bloat.
  • Salty foods and sodium may not cause gas, but it definitely makes you retain water. Cut back on the salt you add to foods.
  • Fatty foods, because fat slows down digestion, giving food more time to ferment. It also increases the sensation of fullness.
  • Gum or hard candy will make you bloated. When you chew or suck on these, you end up swallowing more often, which means you’re probably swallowing more air.
  • Other things that can make you bloated are smoking, eating too fast, skipping meals just to name a few.
