How to Knit Seed Stitch Pattern

  • Pick your yarn and needles.
  • Cast any odd number of stitches on your needle.

Row one: *Knit 1, purl 1. Repeat from * across.

Row two: *Purl 1, knit 1. Repeat from * across.

Repeat these two rows for pattern.

The seed stitch is very simple and very fast pattern. All you need to do is make 1 stitch k1 (knit 1) and the next one p1 (purl 1) and when you finish a row the next one should be switched. Meaning if you did k1 in the first row now you switch it to p1.

  1. Thank you for clarifying this stitch for me! I’ll be making my next scarf using this type of stitch and I also found that, to make it easier to keep track with, if you cast on an odd number of stitches, you can just start K1 P1 the entire length and it automatically makes it to where it staggers the knit & purl stitches! 🙂 I’m a self-taught knitter in the beginning stages so maybe my little bit of knowledge through trial & error might help someone else doing the same! 🙂
